Alzheimer's & Dementia Care

Homestead Village Assisted Living offers a specialized Alzheimer’s and Dementia care program. Our purpose-designed dementia buildings not only feature successful dementia practices but rapidly adapt to the ever changing Alzheimer and dementia care homestead village floridatherapies used to treat dementia. Our personal care programs are supported by 24-hour trained staff with the option to be followed by an on-site geriatric nurse practitioner, physiatrist and physician. Our pharmacy provides ongoing drug to drug interaction reviews and drug to disease state reviews.  These reviews are especially important with dementia residents. The pharmacy also completes a drug review as part of our fall prevention program.

One of our goals is to place residents in a building where they can feel at home and comfortable with the other residents. Therefore, we have separate buildings for early stage dementia residents, middle stage dementia residents and late stage dementia residents. Each building has a small resident population consisting of 14 to 20 private rooms with private baths. Our flexible approach to daily activities contributes to a low stress, soothing atmosphere with caregivers present at all times.

Transitioning from home to an assisted living facility can exacerbate anxiety and agitation in the individual with dementia. When the resident is placed in the correct level of care they require less medication, have fewer safety concerns and family members are more confident and pleased with a very difficult situation. Our physician supported, professionally designed programs are tailored to support the impairment level of each individual resident, ensuring dignity and promoting a higher quality of life for residents and their families.

Before moving to Homestead Village, each prospective resident meets our Administrator or Resident Care Coordinator in order to determine how our staff can best provide assistance for their individual needs. An assessment, in concert with each resident’s physician, determines the appropriate level of care for the individual. Ongoing evaluations are done by the nursing staff as resident’s needs may change over time.
